The 8th edition of Felabration kicked off today, Monday, October 10 with a symposium tagged “Movement Against Second Slavery” at NECA hall, Hakeem Balogun Ikeja.
Every year the late Afrobeat legend and human rights activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti is remembered with an event tagged Felabration.
This annual musical festival is celebrated around the world with a long list of artiste performing live on stage to a massive number of fans of the great music icon.
The speakers of the occasion, included House Leader of Nigeria’s 8th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Affiong L. Affiong, Lemi Ghariokwu and Adebola Williams with Prof. Sophie Oluwole as the moderator.
According to Gbajabiamila who is one of the four speakers of the occasion, he said: ‘ Fela was not just a musician, he was a philosopher and a deep thinker.’
Another speaker Debola Williams stressed that media is needed for mass education, adding that it is a veritable tool for freedom.

Affiong in her address charged the organisers of the event to start a consciousness in the 21st century to abolish second slavery.
Felabration is always held in the week of October 15 to coincide with the birthday of the late Afro beat legend who was born in 1938. It was created after his death to celebrate his life and times by his eldest child Yeni Anikulapo Kuti who conceived it in 1998.
Past editions of the weeklong festival featured school debates, photo exhibitions, street carnivals and gigs.
