– The battle for the soul of Ondo state in the forthcoming election has continued to create tension with various alignments

– Within the All Progressives Congress, there is still bitterness over the emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as the party’s flagbearer

– The appointment of Tinubu’s aide by Olusola Oke, now in AD, fuels speculation that the APC chieftain may have some plans

Chief Olusola Oke, the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the coming Ondo state governorship election has picked Bola Ilor, a close aide to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as the director-general of his campaign organisation and this is causing a major crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu is the national leader of the APC while Oke, who aspired to be the candidate of the APC in the governorship election in Ondo, defected after the party settled for Rotimi Akeredolu in a decision that has even caused another crisis within the party.

Tinubu is having a running battle with the national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun over the outcome of the primary election in Ondo

Vanguard reports that some APC chieftains are already calling for Ilori’s suspension from the party with some saying his appointment confirms that Tinubu may be behind Oke’s defection to AD.

The report quoted the publicity secretary of the APC, Abayomi Adesanya, as saying that Ilori and others sympathetic to Oke would be axed.

“Some members loyal to the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had been found to be involved in some activities against the party in recent time.

“The party’s spokesperson, who said expulsion from the party was penalty for any act of anti-party activity, said the the national body of the party would investigate and later come out with an action against any national leader in such activity,” he said.

But the secretary to the AD in Ondo state, Rotimi Rahman, hinted that Ilori and some others within the APC would soon defect to his party.

In his reaction, Ilori said he had not accepted the appointment as he was still consulting with the APC on it.

“An offer has been made to me, but I am reaching out to my people and supporters on the matter, in a few days I will address the press on it after I have concluded my consultations. I will get back to you.

“Any member of the party that is supporting Akeredolu is carrying out anti-party activity and not those of us who are against him.

“How can a vote of 6-5 rejecting the candidature of Akeredolu be upturned and he is now the candidate of the party? When has five become greater than six?

“As long as they continue to support illegality, they are doing anti-party,” Ilori reportedly said.
