Kelechi Iheanacho continues to grow in stature as he edged three-time FIFA Ballon D’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo to win the CNN Goal of the Week for the second time in two months.
The 20-year-old was on target for Nigeria during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zambia in Ndola as his strike helped seal a 2-1 away win against the Chipolopolo to kick-start the Super Eagles campaign to be at Russia 2018.
The Manchester City forward ghosted past two Zambian defenders to meet a return pass from strike partner Brown Ideye before rounding off the goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball home despite the presence of two more defenders on the line.
Iheancho has been in form this season for both club and country, scoring in his last two international games for Nigeria and already registered two with the Citizens with three assists.
CNNFootball wrote on their official twitter handle: “Congratulations to the latest CNN Goal of the Week winner, @67Kelechi!.”
The Nigerian collected an overwhelming 75% of the votes from an online CNN poll to beat Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo who could only pick 20% votes.
75% Iheanacho – Nigeria
20% Ronaldo – Portugal
04% Alfred Effiong – Malta
02% Iván Aguilar – Recreativo
