Police Service Commission promotes senior officers


– The police service commission has approved the promotion of some senior police officer

– Among those promoted is the former commissioner of police for Jigawa state Henry Adebayo

– The commission also said that the newly promoted officers got their new ranks based on merit, seniority among others

The police service commission on Friday, October 14, approved the promotion of Jigawa state commissioner of police Henry Adebayo to an Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Also promoted to the rank of AIG are three other commissioners of police: Pius Imue, who was a former commissioner of police, Railway Command; Felix Ogundeji, a commissioner of police Intelligence, Force Headquarters and Ezekiel Zang, the commissioner of police, air wing, Force Headquarters.

Adebayo was also former commissioner of police, Cross River state and served as recruitment commissioner of police in Ebonyi state during the nationwide screening of applicants for police recruitment.

The spokesperson of the commission Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement said Adebayo’s promotion was based on merit, seniority, availability of vacancies and dedication to duty.

He also said the commission’s chairman Mike Okiro have urged the newly promoted senior officers to reciprocate government gesture by redoubling their efforts in the service of their fatherland.

Ani said the commission’s decision on the promotion for these commissioners of police has been conveyed to the inspector general of police, Idris Ibrahim for implementation.

He said: “In the letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Musa Istifanus, the Commission said the individual letters for the promotions would be forwarded to the IGP in due course for onward transmission to the affected officers.”

Recently, the police service commission also promoted 29 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of commissioners of police.

The commission had also said the affected promotions were based on the recommendation of availability of vacancies in the AIG and CP cadres of the force occasioned by the recent Force reorganization.

The 29 commissioners were screened by a panel headed by the chairman of the commission and other members of the commission.
