– NNPC intensifies oil exploration in the North of the country, deploys equipment to Gombe, Bauchi states
– At least 11 companies bid for setting up of masts in NNPC offices
– As President Buhari directs further exploration of oil, the corporation drills 23 wells in Chad basin
As a part of the oil exploration in the North, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) plans to deploy equipment and to resume the search for oil in Bauch and Gombe states, the official site of the corporation said.
Maikanti Baru, the director of the NNPC, said this during his visit to Bauchi state.

He said: “We are here to signal to the good people of Bauchi and Gombe states of our intention and efforts to mobilise our equipment back to Gongola basin.
“Our intention is to start 3D seismic acquisition, which covers as much as possible the basin in terms of exploring hydrocarbon in the North-East.
“Of course, our activities in the Chad Basin will also be re-activated as soon as we get the clear sign,” Baru noted.
NNPC GMD then advised the citizens of the states not to panic when they see the movement of the oil search equipment into their communities.
Baru added that earlier prospects conducted in the two states were credible, particularly in one of the wells in Yankari Games Reserves.
“Our intent now is to probe with more definitive seismic data that will ensure we cover as much as possible,” he said.
Dr. Baru also informed that the renewed search for hydrocarbon deposits in the Chad Basin would involve widespread probing of some allocated and non-allocated oil blocks in the region with a view to establishing the magnitude of the deposits.
Also on October 10, the petroleum corporation flagged off bid opening for the decommissioning and installation of towers and masts in Lagos, Benin and Port Harcourt area offices with eleven companies participating in the exercise.
NAIJ.com reported earlier that NNPC confirmed that a total of 23 oil wells have already been drilled by prospecting oil companies that have involved in oil exploration in the North in the past 30 years.
21 of these wells are said to hold some prospects of oil in commercial quantity.
